Imagine travelling through time 12 months into the future on a Friday like this in September 2008. What will you do in the evening? Wouldn’t it be great to meet up with some friends and then arrange to walk along to the new cinema in Harborough.
This week has seen some very important developments (that I can’t reveal here as yet) that make the chances of a cinema coming to the town far higher. When the campaign started there were 4 main problems that needed to be overcome and yesterday, the final problem was! overcome. That does not mean anything is certain, but what must have started out for many as just ‘a nice idea by 2 girls who don’t know the history of the cinema in the town’ looks as if it might actually be coming together.
Sorry I can’t say more, but the more names you can get on the site signing uo the better. Also, if you would like your own copy of the paper petition or a poster to put up in your house, shop or a club that you are associated with, please e-mail alastair@idealmarketingcompany.com and I will e-mail or post you what you want.

The thing about the campaign to bring a cinema back to Harborough is, you never know who is going to get in touch next. I’m delighted to say that local MP Edward Garnier has added his voice to the campaign and e-mailed us this morning with this comment:
“I am delighted that these two youngsters have taken the initiative and got a campaign for the re-opening of Market Harborough’s cinema up and running. For many years and certainly since the closure of Kwiksave people in the town have been asking why the old cinema could not be re-opened. If there is a financial backer prepared to make this a viable and long term possibility I would be delighted to see this proposal succeed.
Edward Garnier QC MP (Harborough)
Whatever your political opinions, pretty much everybody in the town agrees that a cinema will be good for the towns ecconomy. Sign up today and ask your friends to join in too!

Just a reminder that our aim with this campaign is to show the council that a cinema is somthing that is strongly wanted by the people of the town and surrounding villages. So the more names we gather the better a chance we have of making it a reality. So please tell your friends and family to sign up and e-mail as many people as you know with the www.harboroughcinema.com link and ask them to sign up.

Good news that the Leicester Mercury has put us as a page one story. With all the other big stories going on it’s great to see that with 2,500 names and counting the Harborough Cinema story is deemed newsworthy enough to make the cover. It is a good note to end week one of the campaign on.

Natalie Hennessy says
“I was bought up in Market Harborough and feel this is a great idea for the children of the area.
Lucy Seaward is my younger sister and being a youngster herself she knows what kids want to see in their town. I urge people to sign this petition and make the town an even better place than it already is.
Good Luck Girls, keep up the good work.”
L.M.Barrand says
“It would appear the present owners are deliberately relaxing security to the building and encouraging the vandals to wreck it. Noticed the poor state of the hoarding?
If the Council were up to the mark with their responsibilities to the community they could serve a notice on the owners to make the building safe.
I hope your actions will prompt a successful reinstatement of the Cinema for the town’s benefit.”
Alison Brown says
“I remember when the cinema in Harborough used to have special Saturday morning shows for kids at pocket money prices, my sister used to go with her friends. I would love to have this facility back for my kids, also I would love to be able to go and see more films with my husband without having to travel to Leicester or Kettering. Good luck with the campaign.”
H Dawson says
“Although I no longer live in Market Harboroagh I spent my childhood in a nearby village. As a teenager there was little to do in in the locality and it would have been great to have somewhere to go – the big towns were/are too far away for young teenagers to safely travel to.”
