February 2012 – Funding approved for the toilet block on site.
January 2012 – Meeting with Harborough Council to approve plans for site.
November 2011 – Discussion take place between HYACT and Harborough Screen on final details over rental agreements and facilities.
November 2011 – The foundations re measured in preparation for the move
October 2011 – Planning is passed and preparations to move the unit onto site continue
October 2011 – Planning becomes an issue and the story is picked up by radio and newspapers
September 2011 – Planning officers agree to planning in principle if certain conditions are met
August 2011 – The inside of the unit is re-carpeted and the sound equipment serviced
July 2011 – Two sound surveys shows that houses nearby won’t be affected noise from by the cinema
July 2011 – Planning permission is applied for but there are issues with sound from neighbours who raise potential objections. This delays planning.
June 2011 – HYACT agree to work with Harborough Screen on using the land and run a joint project
May 2011 – A site just off St Mary’s Road is found which seems perfect for the project
April 2011 – Renovation of the unit commences
March 2011 – The cinema unit is moved from its site in Kibworth to near Wellingborough
January 2011 – Building regulations are given the OK and the structural engineer gives his report.
December 2010 – Travis Perkins offer a generous sponsorship package for the project offering to help with building materials for the foundations and paving.
June 5th 2010 – The original site falls through as the landlord changes his mind. A new site needs to be found in the town.
May 18th 2010 – 50 seats have now been sold out of the 80 available; more than 20 membership cheques arrived in the post this morning meaning that we need only about 100 more members to have enough money to ensure that the Harborough Screen will take place.
May 1st 2010- the first 15 members complete their forms and post cheques to campaign HQ! We are on our way. Also 7 companies have now signed up to sponsor seats.
April 29th 2010 – The
launch makes the front page of the Harborough Mail BBC Radio Leicester, Leicester Sound, HFM, BBC East Midlands today and the Mercury.
April 29th 2010 – Campaign to raise £50,000 by the end of March starts in earnest. Please sponsor a seat or join as a member today.
April 2010 – Meeting at Angel Hotel to finalise plans and get the final pieces in place to officially launch Harborough Screen and the fund raising campaign at the end of the month.
March 2010 – Facebook Campaign starts and attracts over 1000 local people
February 2010 – Team from Leicester approach the campaign with ideas on how to run a cinema in Harborough. Screen machine seems ideal match
December 2009 – plans are drawn up for refurbishment of unit and search starts for suitable company to operate it
November 2009 – work begins to assess viability of Screen Machine in the town
October 2009 – Harborough wins the bid to be given the unit
September 2009 – Hi Arts appoints Harborough to take over the unit subject to conditions
April 2009 – Hi Arts is approached about portable cinema unit 3/4 of a million pound unit complete with 35mm projector, sound system, air-con etc that is no longer in commission
May 2009 – formal tender and document sent requesting unit submitted by Harborough (as well as other towns)
September 2008 – March 2009 – various meetings with the owners with plans to develop the site with them – to include a cinema. Problems with agreement on space required becomes a sticking point.
January – August 2008 – several attempts are made to broker deals with different parties to ensure a cinema takes place on the former Ritz site. Several come close none actually is able to gain approval from all sides.
December 2007 – the sites owner declines to sell as offers are not high enough
November 2007 – several cinema chains show interest in buying former Ritz site
October 2007 – over 8000 people from Harborough sign the petition
