Not the first cinema in St Mary’s Road

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

It might have been demolished in 1974, but the site that will soon be home to the Harborough Screen was once the hole to an earlier cinema in the town.  The Oriental Cinema once stood to the site.  Let us know if you have any memories of visiting or working in the cinema.

These 3 pictures were taken by Mr Hugh Sykes at the time of it’s demolition.  It would be wonderful to have some pictures of the cinema at it’s peak in the 1930′s or 1940′s.

Thank you to the schools

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

Over 3,000 letters and membership application forms have been passed out by Harborough schools this week.  Robert Smyth, Welland Park, St Josephs primary school, Lubenham primary school, C of E primary school and Meadowdale have all sent details about the cinema home to their students.

Also a big thank you to Stacey, Adam and Garry who have now handed out over 2,000 leaflets by hand to homes around the town.

If just 1 in 15 of these parents return their form this week we will know for certain that we have enough money to ensure that the Harborough Screen will go ahead by the summer.

St Mary’s Road – home of the Harborough Screen

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

The speculation is over.  As revealed in the Harborough Mail and on HFM this week, St Mary’s Road is going to be the location of the Harborough Screen.  It is located on a piece of land that has been vacant since the Oriental cinema was demolished around 40 years ago.

It’s located between Goodmans Electrical and Kwik-Fit, opposite Vanilla Recruitment and It’s a Gas.

Work will begin clearing the site in the next few weeks.  It’s a three minute walk from the town centre, with plenty of access to nearby parking.

Just another Mannix Monday…

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Harborough based security company Mannix Security have suggested a great idea for all members of the Harborough screen.

Most cinema’s have Orange Wednesday’s where you get 2 seats for the price of 1 if you are an Orange customer. The Harborough Screen is going to offer 2 seats for the price of 1 for all cinema members on a Monday.  This will be called Mannix Monday.

So as well as £400 worth of discounts, 10% savings on all goods plus free tickets members will get 2 for 1 tickets every Monday. What are you waiting for!   Join up today to make the Harborough Screen happen.

£100 for a family membership – that’s a bit steep!

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Some people have said that they would like to join the cinema but £100 is too much for a family membership. It’s worth pointing out that all membership levels come with:

Discount vouchers for a host of local shops and restaurants such as Toro Latino, The Angel, The 3 Swanns, IR Symitry North, Duncan Murray Wines, The Oathill, Davinici and many others worth over £400 £500.

2 for the price of 1 admission on Monday’s on our Mannix Monday’s for members only.  If a family of 4 was to visit the Harborough screen once a month on a Monday using this members only promotion, they would save over £588 in one year on ticket prices alone compared to visiting one of our nearest (15 miles away) multiplexes.  Plus a saving of around £180 on petrol.

Plus drinks, popcorn and sweets are cheaper anyway – but members also gain a further 10% discount on all purchases

So you will get your membership fee more than paid within a very short period of time.

So don’t delay.  Join as a member today and let Harborough have a cinema again!
