Harborough Screen

Thanks to the support of the families & businesses of Harborough and surrounding villages, there will indeed be in a cinema again in Market Harborough.

There has been a huge amount of work behind the scenes taking place over the summer of 2010 and into 2011.  The renovation of the unit began off site (April 2011) and this work is ongoing.   This will involve re-painting and full internal renovation of the unit.

We are now looking for volunteers to help with laying of slabs and many other skilled and unskilled jobs related to getting the unit up and running. No experience is needed for some of the tasks and volunteers can give up as little as a few hours of their time.  This phase of the projects will take place over the next few months.  If you think you can spare some time to help make the Harborough Screen happen please e-mail alastair@idealmarketingcompany.com with a daytime phone number, your name and if you are able to work during the week or at weekends only.

At the moment the cinema is scheduled to be open in early 2012  and we are all working hard to make this possible, however we are partially dependent on weather conditions and other factors which have caused us some delays over the past 6 months. However planning permission for the site off St Mary’s Road was granted in October – a significant date for the campaign and the town.

This has been made possible because the town has been given a ‘mobile’ cinema called the  Screen Machine which originally cost £750,000 and it comes with a 35mm projector, Dolby surround system and air conditioning unit. The money that has been donated will allow us to fix it up, service all the equipment, refurbish the seating and make it a real asset to the town.  This unit is currently being stored close to Harborough, having been towed down from Scotland. Once in Harborough it will become a fixed on the site.

This website site contains details of what the new cinema will show, how it will work and how you can help us make it happen.

The town hasn’t had a full time cinema since 1978, and we are looking forward to screening a mix of  new films and classics right here in the town. So tell you friends to join up and if you own a business or work for a business in the town, sponsor a seat.

This is a once in a lifetime chance – lets make the most of it
